Primates are not pets

Sadly, it is still legal for people to keep primates as pets.  Primates everyday are being sold to people who think that keeping primates as pets is the right thing to do.  Primates are wild animals, and although they are one of our closest relatives, they are also very different to us, they can be very destructable, harmful due to  different needs and are  very strong. They can also suffer from abuse and emotional trauams if taken away fromm their families and natural environments.  Primates can give serious bites to humans, and can cause large amounts of damage to homes and children.

Although we can understand that some aspects of feelings and behaviour of primates are like humans, we also need to understand the negative effects that keeping them as pets can have.  Direct contact with primates is not encouraged by Yebo, and we strive to promote awareness to this by the educational actvities we run at primate sanctuaries. We work in a controlled environment with experienced primate handlers, learning about the problems and negative experiences that primates are experiencing in the wild. We hope, that through our work, we are able to explore and use new avenues of education with the actvities and methods that we run, as well as using this as a way of supporting disadvantaged children in the UK, South Africa and Uganda.
