Visiting Ngamba island lets you travel on a boat across the Lake which, in itself , is an amazing experience. It is a beautiful and calming experience with many wildlife to see along the way.<\/p>\n<p>On arrival at the island, we also found some amazing wildlife and enjoyed spending time next to the<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-2377\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"Ngamba Island wildlife\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yeboyes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/img_3215-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Ngamba Island wildlife\" width=\"291\" height=\"216\" \/> lake and around the wildlife<\/p>\n<p>One of the caregivers at the island, Phillip, showed us around, and introduced us to some of the individual chimpanzees in their care, telling us about their backgrounds and told us their individual stories.\u00a0 It was very interesting, yet heartbreaking, to hear about where the chimpanzees had come from, and wonderful to see how well they have adjusted into a troop together after their early traumas through the hard work and dedication of the staff at Ngamba Island.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2382\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"On the boat going over Lake Victoria to the Island.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yeboyes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/img_3394-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"On the boat going over Lake Victoria to the Island.\" width=\"266\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.yeboyes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/img_3394-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.yeboyes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/img_3394-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.yeboyes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/img_3394.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\" \/>This particular visit was vital for the volunteers to learn about the work of the different sanctuaries, and for them to have an educational visit to help them understand the work that they will be doing with the children. Lorna Wilkie, our education coordinator this year, will be helping to incorporate some educational activities into the creative therapeutic activities that Yebo will be doing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We also went to the fishing village on one of the neighbouring islands and saw the school that Ngamba Island funded for the local children. While we were there, we met local women who make <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2383 alignright\" style=\"margin: 10px;\" title=\"Making beads at the fishing island\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yeboyes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/dsc_0455-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"Making beads at the fishing island\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.yeboyes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/dsc_0455-199x300.jpg 199w, http:\/\/www.yeboyes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/dsc_0455-680x1024.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/>beautiful necklaces and bracelets out of recycled paper. They tried to show all of us how to make them\u2026 but with limited success!
